The Political Leader and Secretary General of the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) have descended on the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), describing former President George Manneh Weah’s administration as a bad government that should not be allowed to come back to power.
“What I would be unable to do in my politics is to be hypocritical. If all of us were saying yesterday that the CDC was a bad government and it should be replaced, how then can we sit in the same room now and close our eyes to the same bad things that we said about the CDC? We are not prepared to be part of those people. I think that is hypocritical.” Representative Musa Hassan Bility, Political Leader of CMC, said.
“We didn’t find the CMC to join other political parties just because we want power. Liberia is 179 years too old for this political joke. If you are sure that you did well for the Liberian people when you were in power, then no need to join forces to come back to power. Just proceed on your track records. Spare CMC this unwanted narrative.” Mr. Adihamu Shizo EQ Karneh, Secretary General, CMC, noted.
On Sunday, September 27, 2026, five opposition political parties, including the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), signed a joint communiqué committing themselves to closer political cooperation as discussions intensify over a common framework ahead of Liberia’s 2029 elections.
The agreement was reached Sunday during a roundtable of opposition political leaders hosted by Movement for Progressive Change (MPC) Political Leader Simeon C. M. Freeman at the Sinkor Palace in Monrovia.
Bility accepted the first invitation from CDC political leader George Weah but later declined to attend Sunday’s meeting, urging the CDC to run on its own track record.
During the 2023 presidential elections, ANC leader Alexander B. Cummings, MPC leader Simeon Freeman, and CMC political leader Musa Bility all descended on the CDC government for what they described as bad governance and opted for Mr. Weah to be voted out.
