The Honorable House of Representatives of the Republic of Liberia extends warm congratulations to the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) on the occasion of its 62nd Anniversary, observed on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

The anniversary was celebrated under the theme: “62 Years On: Empowering Independent Media for Democracy, Accountability, and Sustainable Development.” In a congratulatory message, the House of Representatives, through its Director of Press and Public Affairs, Amb. Robert Benjamin Haynes, commended the Press Union of Liberia for its longstanding contribution to the growth and development of journalism and the promotion of press freedom in Liberia.

The House recognizes the media as an indispensable partner in strengthening democracy, promoting transparency, advancing accountability, and keeping citizens informed about matters of national importance.

The House of Representatives further reaffirmed its commitment to freedom of speech, freedom of the press, access to public information, and an open and constructive relationship with the media, stating that the Legislature believes that a vibrant and independent media is essential to ensuring that citizens are adequately informed about legislative processes, government policies, and issues affecting the nation.

The House also acknowledges the important role of journalists and media institutions in reporting the proceedings and activities of the Legislature and encourages continued professional, ethical, and responsible journalism.

The August Body therefore recommits to working closely with the Press Union of Liberia, accredited legislative reporters, and media institutions to strengthen communication between the Legislature and the Liberian people.

“As the Press Union of Liberia marks 62 years of service to journalism and democracy, the House extends its best wishes to the Union’s leadership, membership, journalists, and media practitioners across Liberia,” Press Director Haynes said.
