Justice Minister-Designate Cllr. Betty M. Lamin-Blamo told Senators on Capitol Hill on Monday, October 26, 2026, during her confirmation hearing, that the government will prosecute based on facts, the law, and the standard of proof, ruling out prosecution based on political affiliation or classicism.

She emphasized that prosecutors’ decisions will be guided by evidence, the law, and the pursuit of truth, rather than political or personal considerations.

“A case will be brought because the evidence supports it and for no other reason. The decision to prosecute will rest on facts, the law and the standard of proof, and never on political affiliation, county of origin, wealth or status,” she said

Cllr. Betty Lamin-Blamo served as Solicitor General during the Ellen-Johnson Sirleaf administration; she prosecuted several cases for the government of Liberia. She was nominated by President Joseph Boakai as Minister of Justice in September 2026. Blamo is now facing scrutiny from the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Claims and Petitions, and Human Rights. She has assured Senators on Capitol Hill that she would transform Liberia’s justice system if confirmed.
