The National Elections Commission of Liberia (NEC) Budget Committee has begun receiving and reviewing proposed budgets from various departments and sections across the Commission as part of preparations for the 2029 Presidential and Legislative Elections.
According to a release, on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, the Oversight Commissioner for Budget, Mr. Barsee Leo Kpangbai, presided over the first budget hearing, alongside Commissioner Floyd Oxley Sayor, at the NEC Headquarters in Monrovia.
The hearing emphasized the need for a realistic, comprehensive, and properly costed budget to support the Commission’s preparations for the 2029 General Elections. The draft budgets shall outline proposed activities, estimated costs, implementation timelines, and funding requirements, with emphasis on aligning departmental plans with the NEC Strategic Priorities and the 2029 Election Roadmap.
The exercise brings together heads of departments and key technical and administrative units, including Administration, Operations, ICT, External Relations, and the Comptroller, as well as the Senior Accountant, Senior Legal Counsel, Chief Hearing Officer, and Directors/Heads of Budget and Finance, Monitoring & Evaluation, Records, Field Coordination, Gender, Civic and Voter Education (CVE), and Logistics. The budget review process is intended to strengthen planning, resource allocation, accountability, and preparedness as the Commission advances toward the 2029 General Elections.
