Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sara Beysolow-Nyanti, delivered a keynote statement at the AU-EU Summit in Luanda, Angola, highlighting Liberia’s priorities as a member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2026–2027 tenure. In her address, Minister Beysolow-Nyanti congratulated Angola on its 50th anniversary, thanking the nation for recently honoring late President William R. Tolbert for his role in Angola’s independence journey.
Minister Beysolow-Nyanti underscored that Africa’s burden of managing migration between African countries is often overlooked, making migration to appear as a burden carried only by Western nations. She noted that resources to address this issue should be holistic, equitable, and inclusive, and focus on job creation for youth in Africa. She welcomed initiatives such as the expansion of the European Investment Bank in Africa and highlighted the Global Gateway as a critical framework for cooperation, economic growth, and resource mobilization.
Addressing global security, the Minister reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to counterterrorism efforts, Security Council reform, and peacekeeping reform, while stressing the importance of strengthening regional blocs, including those in West Africa, to effectively address security challenges.
Highlighting the nexus between climate, natural resources, and conflict, Minister Beysolow-Nyanti noted that competition over resources has been a driver of instability in Africa. She called for coordinated strategies to manage natural resources sustainably and prevent conflict. On the sidelines of the summit, Minister Beysolow-Nyanti served as a panelist in a closed-door session of eight African Foreign Ministers, with the Deputy Prime Minister of Slovenia leading on behalf of the EU, along with other EU dignitaries. They discussed the way forward for peace and security in Africa. She also engaged with AU, EU, and ECOWAS leaders to discuss regional collaboration and opportunities for an enhanced Africa-EU partnership.
