The Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC), has disclosed that over 200 Liberians living in South Africa have expressed concern about the current situation in South Africa.

Speaking Tuesday June 16,2026, at the Ministry of information regular press briefing, the Executive Director of the LRRRC Cllr. Jero Cole Bargalu, said the Liberian community in South Africa has expressed serious fears over the growing violence against foreign Africans.

He said at least 21 Liberians have requested to be repatriated before the situation worsens. He noted that other African countries are also taking steps to protect their citizens indicating that Ghana has reportedly begun repatriating about 300 of its nationals, while Nigeria is also arranging the return of hundreds of its citizens from South Africa.

According to him, the Liberian Government is expected to continue monitoring the situation and provide assistance to affected citizens. Meanwhile, Cllr. Barhalu has further disclosed that LRRRC will be celebrating World Refugee Day on June 17,2026.

According to him, this event will bring together partners, government officials ,civil society organizations, amongst others. The global theme for this year’s celebration is, “Solidarity With Refugees,” while the national team is, “Say no to irregular migration, Say no to human trafficking.”
