A high-stakes visit by Zarau Wendeline Kibwe is set to place Liberia’s development agenda under the global spotlight as the senior World Bank Group official arrived in Monrovia on Monday, April 27, for a two-day mission.

Kibwe’s visit comes at a critical time, with Liberia navigating economic pressures and seeking to accelerate growth through international support. The Executive Director is expected to hold top-level talks with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and Finance Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, alongside other senior government officials.

Beyond the corridors of power, Kibwe will tour World Bank-funded project sites to assess their real impact on ordinary Liberians, while identifying bottlenecks slowing implementation.

Key engagements will also bring him face-to-face with private sector actors, including the Liberian Chamber of Commerce and the Liberia Business Association, as discussions intensify around unlocking investment and job creation through the Bank’s private-sector arm.

The mission underscores growing urgency within the World Bank Group to drive “more and better jobs,” particularly as global geopolitical tensions and economic headwinds threaten fragile economies like Liberia’s.

Kibwe, who represents Liberia and 21 other African nations on the World Bank Board, wields significant influence over the institution’s operations, balancing fiduciary oversight with advocacy for development financing aimed at reducing poverty and boosting shared prosperity.

He will be accompanied by Senior Advisor Dr. Plingloh Emmanuel Munyeneh, as Liberia positions itself to attract increased support and investment from one of the world’s most powerful financial institutions.
