The Civil Society Network of Liberia (CSNL) says it has uncovered a calculated and sinister political ploy by a group of misguided and self-seeking politicians intended to manipulate the removal of Magdalene Dagoseh as Minister of Commerce and Industry.
According to the group, this alleged devilish action hatched by some political players within the “Rescue Mission” is not only unwarranted and ridiculous, but intended to undermine the unprecedented developmental and humanitarian works of Minister Dagoseh in Grand Bassa County.
The CSNL says its investigative findings established that this plot is not based on the performance or policy failure of Minister Dagoseh, but is derived from ‘naked’ political fear emanating from the Minister’s rising popularity, and the intent to protect the parochial political interests, greed, and a desperate quest of certain politicians.
“It is disappointing that instead of celebrating a daughter of Grand Bassa County who is lifting the image of the county at the national level, these power mongers, reportedly hailing from the county, have resorted to blackmail and behind-the-scenes maneuvering to tarnish the reputation of Minister Dagoseh and push President Boakai to remove her as Minister of Commerce & Industry,” the group noted in a release.
“The Civil Society Network of Liberia wants President Boakai and the Liberian people to know that since assuming office as Minister of Commerce and Industry, Madam Magdalene Dagoseh has been one of the most performing ministers in the ARREST Agenda. The Administration of Minister Dagoseh at the Ministry of Commerce & Industry has enhanced Economic Transformation and Private Sector Development through the launch of the Accelerate 360 Program under the Liberia Investment, Finance and Trade (LIFT) Project, benefiting hundreds of Liberian-owned SMEs with access to finance and markets; Institutional Strengthening and Inter-Agency Collaboration between the Ministry of Commerce & Industry and line ministries agencies and other relevant private institutions and the Promotion of Made-in-Liberia products and restoration of confidence in the Commerce Ministry; protection of Liberian businesses and consumers; stabilization of prices of goods and services on the market; robust inspection and regulation of goods on the market, amongst others,” they noted.
According to the group, besides her leadership achievements at the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Minister Dagoseh has personally been engaged into numerous developmental and humanitarian initiatives across Grand Bassa County, including supports to women marketers, youth entrepreneurs and farmers with business grants, training and logistical support, interventions in education and health that have touched many underprivileged families-things that career politicians from the county have failed to do for years. “She is accomplishing these laudable works with no record of corruption and administrative malpractices.”
They added that given Minister Magdalene Dagoseh’s positive performance, the CSNL urges President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to remain vigilant and not to fall prey to the machinations of these self-seeking politicians.
“The Liberian people did not elect this government for job-sharing among political elites, but for results and reform. Removing Minister Dagoseh would be a betrayal of meritocracy and a setback to the ARREST Agenda,” they added.
The Civil Society Network of Liberia strongly urges the ‘misguided and greedy’ politicians behind the ploy to remove Minister Dagoseh to desist from fighting a performing Minister because of fear of the 2029 elections.
“We hope that the women of Liberia, the Bassa people, and all well-meaning Liberians will join us in resisting this ploy to silence one of the few performing female ministers in government. Let us not sit and watch good public servants, like Minister Magdalene Dagoseh, being sacrificed for selfish political interests,” the civil society group pointed out.
