The final phase of the Media-Security Conference on reviewing the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Elections is underway in Ganta, Nimba County. The three-day event, which runs from January 12–14, 2026, forms part of ongoing efforts to review, update, and strengthen the SOP governing collaboration between the Liberian media and security apparatus, as preparations continue for future electoral processes.

This concluding session of the conference features key presentations on NEC’s Electoral Cycle, the Do’s and Don’ts of Media and Security during the Electoral Process, the legal framework governing elections and security operations, best practices in crowd control and electoral conflict resolution, as well as the roles and responsibilities of the media in elections, among others.

Journalists and security personnel participating in the conference will also engage in a Roundtable Discussion on Lessons Learned from the 2023 General Elections, with emphasis on media and security engagement and relationship-building. The conference is supported by the UNDP Liberia Electoral Support Project in Liberia, and implemented through the NEC Communications Section, in partnership with the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), the Liberia National Police (LNP), and the Peacebuilding Office (PBO).

Leading the sessions are NEC Executive Director and Head of Secretariat, Anthony K. Sengbe; Director of Training and Procedures, James S. B. Wallace; NEC Communications Director, Prince Dunbar; UNDP-Liberia Program Officer, Roosevelt Zayzay; Press Union of Liberia President, Julius Kanubah; and Deputy Police Commissioner, DCP. Augustine K. Browne.
