The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Agriculture is set to hold this year’s National Agriculture Fair in Kakata, Margibi County.
Speaking Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing, Agriculture Minister Dr. J Alexander Nuetah said the program will be held on the campus of Booker Washington Institute (BWI) from December 5-7 2024.
He said the event will give farmers the opportunity to display their products while stressing the need for everyone from the rural and urban areas to attend and support local farmers. He said the first Agriculture Fair was held in 1956, another in 1976, one in Lofa County in 2008 and the most recent one was held in 2021.
He said President Joseph Nyuma Boakai wants Liberians to feed themselves but in order for that to happen, they should be ready to encourage and support those in the production sector.
“This year’s program will be celebrated under the theme “promoting agriculture for food security, nutrition and sustainable development,” he said. The minister said no country that does not feed itself is stable, adding that Liberia needs to achieve food security to feed itself and produce more of what it eats; thus the government has been investing into rice production.
Giving a rundown of activities for the event, Minister Nuetah said on December 5, there will be farmers’ conference, December 6, Official opening of the fair, while December 7 will be farmers’ awards program.
