The House of Representatives has mandated its Joint Committees on Foreign Affairs, Judiciary, and National Security to review concerns surrounding the deportation of foreign nationals from the United States to Liberia.

According to a Press Bureau statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Plenary reached the decision during the third day sitting of the Third Quarter of the Third Session of the 55th Legislature.

The decision followed a communication from Bong County District #3 Representative J. Marvin Cole, requesting Plenary to invite the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Justice, and State for Presidential Affairs to provide detailed information on the deportees.

In his communication to Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon, Representative Cole called for clarity regarding arrangements between the governments of Liberia and the United States concerning the deportation of foreign nationals to Liberia.

The Bong County lawmaker expressed concern over the reported arrival of 20 deportees and the possibility of approximately 1,200 individuals being sent to Liberia. According to him, lawmakers need detailed information about the deportees’ immigration records, nationalities, backgrounds, and the circumstances surrounding their removal from the United States.

He added that the Legislature has a responsibility to protect Liberia’s territorial integrity and ensure that decisions affecting national security receive adequate scrutiny. Representative Cole further alleged that some deportees could have been involved in drug trafficking, cybercrime, and other criminal activities before their removal from the United States.

He therefore urged Plenary to obtain clarification from the relevant government officials to address concerns about the deportees’ identities, backgrounds, and potential security implications for Liberia. Meanwhile, the Joint Committees on Foreign Affairs, Judiciary, and National Security are expected to report to Plenary within two weeks.
