The Department of Gender and Social Inclusion, in collaboration with the Department of Health Services of the Ministry of National Defense, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, celebrated World Menstrual Hygiene Day with students of Gray D. Allison High School.
This year’s Menstrual Hygiene Day, observed under the theme ”Together for a Period Friendly World”, provided a safe and engaging space for students to share their diverse experiences related to menstruation, personal safety, and hygiene.
Delivering the keynote address, Mrs. Chandra Roberts Gardia, Director of Health, emphasized the importance of maintaining safe hygiene practices, accessing quality menstrual products, and collectively breaking the stigma around menstruation.
She encouraged female students to prioritize their health during their periods and called on male students to offer empathy and support to their female peers. Also speaking at the event, the Director of Gender and Social Inclusion expressed gratitude to the administration of Gray D. Allison High School for their collaboration.
She highlighted the significance of menstruation awareness, educating youth, and celebrating such days to foster openness, respect, and empowerment among young people.
World Menstrual Hygiene Day is celebrated every year on May 28 to raise global awareness and promote action around the challenges many women and girls face in managing their menstruation with dignity. The date, 28/5, symbolizes the average menstrual cycle (28 days) and the average duration of menstruation (5 days).
The day aims to break taboos, promote access to menstrual products, improve sanitation infrastructure, and ensure menstrual health is recognized as a human right and public health issue.
