The Sixth Judicial Circuit Court, Civil Law Court “A,” has summoned Police Inspector, Gregory O. W. Coleman for contempt of court. Presiding Judge, Peter W. Gbeneweleh, requests the police chief to appear before the court on Tuesday, October 28 to explain why he should not be held in contempt.

The court said Coleman failed to enforce a directive, failure the court sees as disrespectful to judicial authority.  The writ pointed out that noncompliance with lawful orders undermines the justice system and threatens judicial independence. The Sheriff of Montserrado County has been ordered to serve the writ of summons without delay and submit proof of service before the hearing on Monday.

It is not known whether Coleman will appear for the hearing as he is currently out of Liberia attending an international conference of Police Chiefs in the United States of America.
