The Auditor General of the General Auditing Commission (GAC) P. Garswa Jackson has disclosed that a comprehensive audit of the Civil Service Agency (CSA) saved the Government of Liberia millions of dollars through reforms and improved accountability.
Speaking on Monday, May 11, 2026, on ELBC, Jackson said audits are conducted to strengthen governance and are not designed to target or shame government agencies. He said the primary purpose of auditing is to strengthen institutions and ensure that public resources are used effectively for the benefit of Liberians.
“Audits play a critical role in promoting transparency, efficiency, and accountability within government ministries and agencies, and the proper oversight helps identify weaknesses in public institutions and supports reforms aimed at improving service delivery and financial management,” GAC Auditor Jackson said. Commenting on the first comprehensive audit of the Civil Service Agency (CSA), he further said the audit made significant progress by saving Liberia millions of dollars.
The GAC boss said the audit uncovered irregularities and management issues within the institution, leading to reforms designed to improve accountability and strengthen the proper management of government resources.
The Auditor General stressed that effective auditing should be viewed as a constructive process that contributes to institutional development and good governance. He said strengthening accountability mechanisms remains essential to ensuring that public funds are used for national development and to improve the lives of ordinary citizens.
