In an effort to enhance the capacity of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) Band Unit, its High Command procured a modern musical set on January 5, 2026. After approximately two decades of use, the current instruments are obsolete, and in some instances, affect the productivity of the unit.  Speaking to the Public Affairs Department of AFL, Major General Davidson Fayiah Forleh emphasized that the new musical instruments will enhance the professionalism and productivity of the Band Unit (Marching Band and Orchestra/Dance Band).

The procurement of these modern musical instruments is tied to my intent to revitalize and reenergize Liberia’s number one band unit, said General Forleh. In January 2025, with the intent of reenergizing the Band Unit, General Forleh mandated the audition and training of 65 young band cadets who are currently on standby for recruitment into the AFL.

For his part, the Band Unit Commander, Second Lieutenant Philip Karpeh, indicated that the instruments will inevitably enhance his unit’s capacity to boost troops’ morale and patriotism through inspiring music.  The provision of ceremonial music for official functions such as parades, state arrivals, and funerals, including connecting the AFL to communities, will also be enhanced, said Second Lieutenant Karpeh.
