The Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC) has issued an amended distribution license to the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), granting the state-owned utility expanded authority to operate in additional parts of Grand Bassa, Rivercess and Bong counties. The decision, announced on Tuesday, marks a further step in the government’s plan to widen access to reliable and affordable electricity across the country.
According to LERC, the revised license authorizes LEC to extend power distribution to new communities that were previously outside its official service area. The move is expected to support ongoing energy infrastructure projects and strengthen national electrification targets. Representing LEC at the license issuance were Varmu A. Reeves, Project Coordinator in the Division of Projects; George Hakeem Tawalah, Senior Manager of the Commercial Division; and Henry Sambolah, Senior Manager for Regulatory. They received the amended license on behalf of the corporation’s management. The expansion will enable more households and businesses to benefit from electricity
