The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has launched a twelve-week project aimed at electrifying the Roberts International Highway corridor with modern streetlights. Speaking Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing, Daniel O. Sando, Deputy Information Minister for Press & Public Affairs, stated the project is expected to be completed and commissioned in December 2025.
He assured that the streetlights will enhance road safety and improve visibility for travelers, and create a welcoming environment for visitors arriving through Liberia’s main international gateway. Meanwhile, Sando disclosed that LEC is expanding electrification to two rural communities in Nimba and Grand Kru Counties, where residents have never had access to electricity.
According to him, over 1,500 streetlights will be installed, and customer metering is ongoing in 18 communities, and a grid will be managed by Jungle Energy Power, with MBH Power serving as the project implementer. In another development, the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA) has opened discussions with the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority on the possibility of establishing direct flights between Liberia and Egypt. Sando said the talks, held on the sidelines of the 42nd ICAO General Assembly in Montreal, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, boosting connectivity, promoting trade and tourism, and enhancing Africa’s intra-continental aviation links.
