During the second day of the Liberia Annual Diaspora Conference in the United States of America, President Joseph N. Boakai promised Liberians that their investments will always be protected. According to Boakai, his government will work with the Diaspora community to build a transparent system, protect investment and improve the country.

The President narrated that Liberia is on the move of development, which nobody can stop, and his government is resolute in building a nation of healing and reconciliation for a better future. “This is a small beginning, but I know when Liberians say they will do it, they will do it, and you are going to do it,” he said.

With the direction the country has taken, Boakai said that others will see and join in the developmental drive, calling on the Diaspora community to return home and aid the rebuilding process. President Boakai reminded Liberians abroad that many good things are back home, and it will take Liberians to make it happen.

“It does not matter how you came here; it was time to come and now it is time to go home,” the President stated. Additionally, he reminded them to be a major part of the process, stating that people are now knocking on the doors of Liberia like a recent discovery.

“Do not take too long to come back home, plenty of lands and opportunities are back home, and only Liberians can take up the responsibility to rebuild Liberia,” he noted. Moreover, the Liberian leader encouraged them to see the need to turn their meaningful remittances into factories back home, clinics, and scholarships, amongst others.

The conference, according to him, has reaffirmed the truth that Liberia can’t develop itself in isolation, but rather through collective approaches and inclusiveness. “I always told people that you can pawn Liberia, but you can’t sell it,” he emphasized.

Moreover, President Boakai reassured Diaspora Liberians that his government remains committed to transforming the conference into action in the interest of the Liberian people.  Meanwhile, he commended stakeholders and all Liberians for their contributions to Liberia, but urged them to do more.
