The Government of Liberia has announced the completion of the country’s first-ever Digital Village project in Lofa County. The village is powered by renewable energy. During a press briefing at the Ministry of Information on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs, Daniel Sando, stated that the facility will provide free solar electricity, internet connectivity, and digital learning opportunities within a 2.5 km radius. This initiative aims to benefit hospitals, clinics, schools, churches, and homes in the area.

Sando emphasized that this development is part of the government’s commitment to transforming Liberia into a digital economy and preparing its youth for a more technologically advanced future.  Additionally, the government is launching a new National Service Program, which will initially deploy 150 young graduates across various ministries and agencies. Each participant will receive a monthly stipend of USD 200 for duration of 30 months.

The program is built on previous initiatives but takes a further step by creating structured pathways for skills development, employment, and nation-building. In another development, the government has also provided 28 motorbikes to enhance community-based monitoring of road infrastructure. Sando explained that community organizations will help identify problems, report issues, and conduct small repair work, such as clearing drainage systems and maintaining feeder roads. This initiative aims to create jobs for young people while improving local infrastructure management.
