The Beatrice Wleh Scholarship Foundation has awarded scholarships to over sixty-five school-going children from ten institutions in West Point. The organization was officially launched on Saturday in West Point Township under the theme “Educating Girls through Unification,” aimed at removing educational barriers for children in the community.

Cyrus Blay, the Foundation’s Country Director, stated that the program is designed to assist underprivileged students in the township. Currently, the foundation is supporting sixty-five students from more than twenty institutions.

Blay mentioned that the foundation plans to expand its program to include children with disabilities in the next cohort. “We are working to develop the program to incorporate mentorship and vocational training skills. Next year, we aim to extend our support to disabled children whose parents cannot afford it,” he added.

At the event, Thomas Tweh, the National Coordinator for the Foundation, encouraged parents to allow their children to choose their dream careers rather than imposing predetermined career paths on them. “In November 2025, we will take the students to explore historical sites around Montserrado County. Parents, please support your children in pursuing their ambitions; don’t dictate their career choices,” he emphasized.  Tweh explained that the primary goal of the scholarship initiative is to educate the students and provide them with practical skills.

Additionally, Barkue Sayee, who spoke on behalf of guest speaker Cornelia Kruah, the Deputy Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, urged parents to take an active role in their children’s education and not to leave it solely to the schools. Sayee expressed appreciation for the Foundation’s initiatives in the community.

One of the parents of a scholarship recipient, Cecliea Blamo, also expressed her gratitude for the program and suggested that it be expanded further. The launch event was attended by prominent residents of the West Point Community, including students, the West Point Township Commissioner, parents, and school administrators, among others.
