The Ministry of Justice’s Gender Social Inclusion Unit (GSIU) led by its Director, Madam Maude M. Somah, has officially launched and concluded “PHASE TWO” of the Nationwide Rollout of the Gender Policy and Five-Year Action Plan for Bomi, Grand Cape Mount and Gbarpolu Counties in Western Liberia.

According to a press release dated January 7, 2025, the three counties are placed in the category of Region-Three. On October 28, 2024, Ministry of Justice’s Gender Social Inclusion Unit (GSIU) commenced the Policy rollout plan in “Region two” which comprises Lofa, Bong and Nimba Counties.

Speaking at the launch of the Policy in Tubmanburg, Bomi County on Monday, December 16, 2024, the Executive Secretary in the Office of the Mayor of Tubmanburg, Mr. S. Darlington McGee, said that citizens of the western region were excited to benefit from such policy.

 During the training workshop, Adolphus Weah, an official of the Liberia National Fire Service emphasized gender balance in the security sector as cardinal to the growth and transformation of the sector.

In her opening remarks, the Director of the Gender Social Inclusion Unit (GSIU) Madam Maude M. Somah, on behalf of the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Liberia, Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh, said the ministry was excited to implement such project across the country.

“We want this gender policy to be our every day’s practice at the various local offices; thanks to the minister for his exceptional support towards the process,” Madam Somah said.

The objective of the MOJ’s Gender Policy and Five-Year Action is intended to promote gender equality, enhance women’s empowerment and promote social inclusion in the justice sector.

 The Nationwide campaign is aimed at ensuring widespread awareness, understanding and adoption of the Gender Policy in all Ministry of Justice’s local offices at the county level.

The policy will also enable the ministry’s local offices to advocate and integrate the policy’s principles into everyday practice at the workplace.
