The Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Monrovia, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel Blamo Jubwe, says priests are not superhuman beings, rather are born of a woman like any other human that needs care and respect.

Delivering his homily on Saturday, December 14, 2024, during the priestly ordination of Rev. Father Edward S. Tiepoh and Rev. Father Omerly Y. Kollie at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Monrovia, Archbishop Jubwe said when a person becomes a priest, others expect him to be a super human being which is not the case, but simply someone chosen from amongst men.

According to him, a priest is a human being called by God to share his world throughout the nations and set aside for sacred use; saying priests are spiritual vessels of God’s mystery, a direct representative of Christ on earth, urging Catholics to pray and support them.

He charged the newly ordained priests to make personal effort to allow the word of consecration to be used at every mass, urging them to surrender their lives in anticipation of Christ who died for the world.

“The way you will celebrate the mass and how you will reflect it in your lives, will not only convince the people, but most importantly, will make the people of God to respect your presence at all times,” the archbishop said.

The head of the Catholic Church said failure on their part to unite with Jesus by frequent confession and spending time before the Blessed Sacrament, the joy of the priesthood will not be experienced or felt.

“As you become priests today, be a father to all without exception. You are to be a father, whose fatherly role will make sense through selfless service,” Archbishop Jubwe said.

The Archbishop said priests must abandon earthly things and focus on their role as shepherds, teachers, and servants of the sacraments, living a life that mirrors Christ’s example of selfless love and sacrifice.
