The Administrator of Marshall Medical Center Margibi County, James Peters, reveals that due to the lack of electricity at the facility, nurses are left with no option but to deliver pregnant women through the use of phone light.

Speaking on Saturday, October 26, 2024, when President Joseph Nyuma Boakai visited the hospital, Peters said since the Liberia Electricity Cooperation (LEC) sent a team to do an assessment for electricity at the hospital, nothing has been done. He said the hospital serves seven communities, including parts of Grand Bassa County and caters to a population of 499 patients.

Peters said the only ambulance at the hospital has broken down, causing major setback for patients, and due to wind from the ocean, the wire fence of the facility has also gotten damaged.

Meanwhile, Peters has called on the president to intervene in the hospital’s crisis, as even the land where the facility was built belongs to the Methodist Church, and the hospital’s administration has been asked to buy the land.

For his part, President Boakai applauded the nurses and administrators at the hospital for their sacrificial work towards the people of Marshall City and assured them of his government’s commitment to towards improving the facility of the hospital.

“There is no hospital that can work without electricity. I can assure you that we will work with the Ministry of Health to give support to this facility,” Boakai said, adding that the challenges faced by the hospital are not just about the nurses and administrators, but the citizens themselves.

“Take a piece of paper and write all of your need and sign it; we will talk with the Minister of Health and with ourselves, anything we can do to help, will be done,” he said.
