As the Liberia National Police (LNP) begin the enforcement of regulations against motorcyclists in Monrovia and its environs, citizens have called on motorcyclists to abide by ongoing LNP regulation.

Our reporter said several citizens were seen walking from one end to another, especially in central Monrovia, while several bikes were impounded by the police in violation of the regulations.

Fewer bikes were seen plying the streets especially those who successfully met the full compliance requirements.

Recently, the LNP modified requirements for motorcyclists to ply the streets, which include registration of the bike, helmet for rider and passenger, reflective jacket. They are also required to wear boot before plying the main streets among others

Police officers were seen at various points with checkpoints mounted to inspect motorcyclists, who are in compliance or not.

Speaking with scores of citizens on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, the citizens said, ‘It’s about time we obey the regulation put forth by the LNP for the betterment of our country.’

They said business as usual must stop and Liberians should learn to do the right things because the safety of those motorcyclists is important.

They said Liberians are good in praising other West African countries on how their laws are obeyed by their citizens but refusing to obey LNP’s regulation.

According to them, Liberians voted to make sure that the government setup system; adding that everybody needs to be patient and abide by the rule.

Our reporter said some citizens who are not in support of LNP regulations indicated that a full enforcement process by the police was unnecessary.

Those against the regulation said the exercise has brought serious embarrassment to students, private and public workers including business people.
