Following a successful working visit to Türkiye, President Joseph N. Boakai has returned to the country with huge promises unveiling Türkiye’s investment, strengthening diplomatic relations through the establishment of a consulate and an embassy and scholarship drive for Liberia.

The Liberian leader on Saturday July 11, 2026, told journalists at the Robert International Airport in Margibi County that his working visit to the Republic of Türkiye has opened new opportunities for investment, education and stronger diplomatic ties, while urging Liberian leaders to place national interest above political differences.

Speaking further, President Boakai said his engagements with Turkish officials centered on attracting investment to Liberia, expanding scholarship opportunities for Liberian students, and strengthening bilateral relations through the establishment of a Turkish Consulate in Liberia and a Liberian diplomatic mission in Türkiye.

“There were talks around investments, education opportunities for Liberians by acquiring scholarships, and strengthening diplomatic relations through the establishment of a consulate and an embassy,” he said. Also, the Liberian leader described the proposed diplomatic expansion as a significant step toward boosting economic cooperation, increasing trade, and creating new opportunities for Liberians.

Shifting to domestic affairs, the President called for stronger collaboration between the Executive and Legislative branches stressing that Liberia’s development must take priority over political interests. “Liberia is all that matters, and everyone who has come to government must know that Liberia comes first. We need to work together at all times, because Liberia comes first in everything we have to achieve,” Boakai explained.

Moreover, the President said his administration remains committed to attracting foreign investment, expanding educational opportunities, and strengthening international partnerships as part of its broader agenda to accelerate Liberia’s economic growth and development.
