Liberia has recommitted itself to the vigorous full implementation of all ratified international regulations on the protection of children’s rights in the labour sector. Liberia’s position was echoed recently by the Director of Child Labour Division at the Ministry of Labour, Madam Patience Heah, when she delivered a special message on behalf of Labour Minister, Cllr Cooper W. Kruah, Sr., at this year’s International Child Labour Day.
The awareness activities were held across several communities in Paynesville. Addressing the outreach meetings, Madam Heah pledged the Liberian Government’s commitment, through Labour Minister Kruah, to ensure that all international protocols the country ratified are fully domesticated and implemented.
Director Heah called on parents across the country to help the government coordinate and oversee the protection of the rights of children, especially against extremely hazardous jobs, both at home and at the workplace. She made specific reference to recent convictions of several individuals found guilty for Human Trafficking, which she stressed, border on Child Labour, respectively.
In remarks, the Community Chairlady of the Sand Town Community, Madan Willimina Joe, thanked the Labour Ministry for selecting her region as one of the satellite venues for this year’s events.
The program was organized under the theme: “Coordinating Efforts and Upholding Commitments to end Child Labour in Liberia,” attended by several child rights advocacy groups. Signed: E. Frederick Baye-Deputy Director of Communications and Public Affairs.
