A customs brokers group in Liberia has been recognized for its contributions to reforms in the country’s customs and trade sector. The group has played a key role in advancing reforms that have led to improved trade facilitation, increased revenue, and enhanced economic growth.
Speaking at the honoring program in Monrovia during the weekend, the Chairman of the Blue Family-an umbrella organization of customs brokers, Abdullah D. Massaquoi stated that Trade Insight, as a clearing and forwarding institution, has done much to improve the lives of struggling customs brokers across Liberia by providing capacity building, materials such as laptops, and internet access for customs broker offices to enhance their work.
According to him, the honoring is their way of motivating Liberians who are contributing to improving the living conditions of customs brokers who are finding it difficult in the trade sector.
He noted that over the past year, Trade Insights has rapidly expanded as a trade facilitation institution established in late 2024. “It has made an enormous impact through donations at various border points, supplying rain gears for personnel at the NCBAL offices nationwide.” Massaquoi outlined what he described as several “practical and life-touching interventions,” undertaken independently by the institution for the benefit of brokers nationwide.
This includes supporting the Elder Council with welfare assistance, distributing stationery supplies across customs regions, and donating mobile phones to members of the Elder Council. He further stated that the institution sponsored transportation and hotel accommodations for more than forty brokers during the association’s March 2026 convention held in Harper City, Maryland County.
Receiving the award on behalf of Trade Insights, Jesse Z. Kplawood, a senior representative of the institution, thanked the group for the honor and promised that their institution, headed by Robert Daniel Boakai, the CEO, remains committed to improving the sector to work for all.
She noted that only Liberians can promote Liberians, calling on all customs brokers across Liberia to stay consistent and honest in their daily transactions, emphasizing that the sector continues to face a mountain of challenges and that only a collective effort can transform the sector to work for all.
The occasion brought together brokers operating around the Freeport of Monrovia and other customs regions nationwide as customs brokers celebrated the work of Trade Insights and outgoing National Custom Broker Association of Liberia (NCBAL) Secretary General Charles Karpeh for their immense contributions toward the welfare and empowerment of customs brokers.
