Grand Kru County local authorities have confirmed that 47 applicants are undergoing job interviews and equipment testing at the Maryland Oil Palm Plantation, using the company’s equipment due to the lack of road equipment within the county. The testing is in anticipation of the June 29, 2026, deployment of the 285 yellow machines procured by the Government of Liberia for road construction and maintenance across the country.
According to Joe M. Sekpeh, Grand Kru County Development Officer, qualified applicants will be selected after the process and their names will be disclosed to the public for transparency and accountability.
Speaking on Monday, June 1, 2026, at the testing grounds at MOPP in Maryland County, Sekpeh maintained that all 47 applicants were transported to neighboring Maryland at the expense of the Grand Kru authorities.
He said that in anticipation of the 15 pieces of road construction equipment allotted to the county, the local administration has already cleared a parking lot in Barclayville City for the arrival of the machines. The site will also serve as a hub and training ground for young people in the county.
The exercise saw applicants clearing areas along the Pleebo–Barclayville road, supervised by representatives from the Ministry of Public Works, which also brought in some equipment.
The Special Presidential Project Coordinating Committee has disclosed that all 285 yellow machines have arrived in the country and are set for distribution, beginning with River Gee, Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru, Maryland, and Sinoe counties in the Southeast.
The planned deployment is expected to provide counties with much-needed equipment for road rehabilitation and maintenance projects.
The yellow machines program is one of the Boakai-Koung administration’s flagship infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving road connectivity and reducing the government’s dependence on rented or contracted road construction equipment.
