The Office of rebel-style House of Representatives Speaker Richard N. Koon has refuted the online publication by The Liberian Investigator titled: “Majority Bloc Plans Impeachment Proceedings Against Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene G. Youh.

The newspaper report said that the Majority Bloc was planning to introduce a resolution seeking the impeachment of Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene G. Youh, citing misconduct and gross breach of duty, incitement of a constitutional crisis, obstruction of the judiciary, nepotism, and defrauding the public treasury.

But in a release issued on Monday, February 17, 2025, the Speaker’s Office said the story is false and misleading.

“To this date, there is no said resolution before the House of Representatives regarding the impeachment of the Chief Justice. What the House has received is a petition from a Liberian citizen residing in the United States. As guaranteed under Article 17 of the 1986 Constitution, every citizen has the right to petition their leaders, and this individual has exercised that right,” the release said. However, it failed to mention the citizen’s identity, creating room for public doubts over the authenticity of the information.

The release further said if the petitioner has not engaged with any member or group of members of the House to draft a resolution, and the House has no knowledge of any such effort.

The Speaker’s Office said the petition has not yet been presented to Plenary for consideration. “We urge The Liberian Investigator and all media institutions to make it their business to verify information through official channels before publication, rather than propagate unconfirmed reports that mislead the public and create unnecessary political tension,” the release said, adding that responsible journalism is critical to national stability and encouraged a commitment to accuracy and professionalism in reporting on legislative matters.
