What’s-There-To-Gain

Following his visit to the Asian nations of Indonesia and China, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has returned home with what he terms as “development packages” for the rebuilding of the country.

Speaking following his return on Wednesday, August 11, 2024 during an intercessory and thanksgiving service at the Effort Baptist Church in Paynesville, Boakai say China waived Liberia’s debt of US$6.6 million owed to it, committed to Liberia a US$13 million loan for agriculture equipment and a massive renovation and expansion of State Radio, ELBC, to ensure that it effectively covers the entire country.

Highlighting key areas of development, President Boakai listed the upcoming construction of an overhead bridge project that will connect SKD Boulevard to 540 Junction in Congo Town, and from 12th Street, Sinkor, to Barnersville Junction, for which US$60 million is in the pipeline for the implementation of the project.

He mentioned the implementation of the Liberian National Grid Line Modernization, construction of a 75 megawatts solar power plant in Bomi County, with China further committing to make interventions in other key sectors of Liberia including road, energy and infrastructure development, amongst others.

President Boakai said his government is ready to build a new Liberia and it awaits the responses from Indonesia and China for all these good promises. The president said Liberians have been resilient over the years despite scores of circumstances, and the country’s doors are open for development and honest people.

“Liberians are also hopeful of the practical implementation for the country in the coming months and years ahead,” the President said, urging citizens not to panic and be hopeful for a better Liberia.
