Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung departed Liberia for Accra, Ghana on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, where he will represent President Joseph Nyuma Boakai at the inter-denominational state funeral scheduled for Friday, August 15, 2025. The funeral is in honor of Ghanaian officials who died in a helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region on August 6, 2025.
A release from the Office of VP Koung said members of the Liberian delegation also include Rtd. General Geraldine Janet George, Minister of National Defense, Samuel Kofi Woods, National Security Advisor to the President, Luther K. Tarpeh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Port Authority and Chairman of the ruling Unity Party, amongst others.
In this solemn period, VP Koung will stand in solidarity with Ghana’s leadership and people, offering Liberia’s deepest condolences and support as the nation mourns this profound loss. Among those killed were Ghana’s Defence Minister, Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and six others who were devoted public servants. The visit underscores the enduring bond between Liberia and Ghana, united by shared history, mutual respect, and commitment to West African integration.
