To boost Liberia’s educational system, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has dedicated a US$47 million school project in Bong County, a project undertaken by the International Development Association of the World Bank Group. Speaking Monday, July 21, 2025, at the school’s dedication in Bong County, Boakai said, “Today is a special day for Bong County and Liberia as a whole. We are gathered to celebrate the opening of a modern learning facility that represents hope, progress, and a strong commitment to the future of our children. This school is not just a building. It is a statement that education remains at the heart of our development agenda.”

According to him, the achievement is made possible through the Liberia Improving Results in Secondary Education Project, supported by a generous US$47 million grant from the International Development Association of the World Bank Group.  He disclosed that the Ministry of Education, working with partners, has delivered a project that addresses the real challenges in the education sector.

“Together, we have expanded access to senior secondary education, strengthened gender equity, improved curricula, and enhanced the capacity of the Ministry to serve students better,” he added. The Liberian leader explained that modern classrooms, science and computer labs, and safe learning environments set a new standard for education in Liberia, saying, “This is the future we want for every Liberian child.”

Boakai narrated that the dedication of the US$47 million project reflects the government’s ARREST Agenda, which is focused on access, reform, and excellence in education. The President: “As an African proverb wisely says, ‘Education is the key that unlocks the golden door of freedom.’ This truth reminds us why this work is so important.”

According to him, a good education begins with a good learning environment, adding that when students study in well-lit classrooms, sit at proper desks, and have access to science and computer labs, they learn quickly and effectively. He said a conducive environment reduces distractions, inspires confidence, and encourages curiosity.

President Boakai noted that when a child feels safe and comfortable, he is free to dream and focus on learning, rather than worrying about basic needs; thus, his administration is investing in proper school infrastructure, not just about buildings, but giving children the tools and opportunities to succeed. “To our students,” Boakai said. “This is your moment. Make the most of it. Your government believes in you, and this investment is a sign of that belief. Let these halls echo with ambition, hard work, and success.”

He applauded partners at the World Bank and everyone who contributed to the project, saying that their support has helped open a door to a brighter future for thousands of young Liberians. President Boakai urged partners and the government to keep building an education system that serves every student, lifts every community, and secures a strong future for the nation.
