The Government of Liberia has announced a new coastal resilience initiative, allocating US$10 million for the implementation of the Coastal Restoration Project in Greenville, the capital of Sinoe County. During a regular press briefing at the Ministry of Information on Thursday, October 20, 2025, Emmanuel King Urey, the Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), stated that they are also developing a Climate Information System Project, which is valued at US$10 million. This project aims to strengthen the national capacity to predict weather patterns and provide accurate climate information for farmers and policymakers.
Urey mentioned that the project will extend from West Point in Monrovia to Greenville. He noted that it is a direct outcome of Liberia’s active participation in the Conference of Parties (COP) negotiations and global environmental diplomacy. He emphasized that climate change remains one of the most significant challenges facing humanity since the onset of the industrial era. “The world has witnessed a steady rise in global temperatures due to greenhouse gas emissions from human activities,” he stated. The consequences have been devastating, leading to rising sea levels, intense flooding, prolonged droughts, biodiversity loss, and threats to food and water security.
