United States Ambassador to Liberia Mark C. Toner says his country looks forward to collaborating with Liberia in areas of regional security, rule of law, and democratic integrity.
The US Ambassador made the statement on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, during a courtesy call on Liberia’s Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Cllr N. Oswald Tweh, at his Mamba Point office in Monrovia. Amb. Toner’s visit came in the wake of Liberia’s successful election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2026–2027 term.
A Justice Minister release stated that during the cordial meeting, Ambassador Toner extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Government and People of Liberia on this significant diplomatic achievement.
He praised Liberia’s increasing role in promoting global peace and security, and described the election as a testament to the country’s renewed international standing and commitment to democratic governance.
“This is a proud moment for Liberia,” said Ambassador Mark Christopher Toner. “Your country’s voice on the Security Council will be important in shaping a peaceful and secure international community. We look forward to continued collaboration on regional security, rule of law, and democratic integrity,” Toner said.
He lauded Minister Tweh for his leadership at the Ministry of Justice and called on him to continue exercising prudence, transparency, and accountability in the discharge of his duties, while emphasizing the importance of an independent and credible justice system as a pillar of Liberia’s democratic consolidation and good governance agenda.
In response, Minister Tweh expressed gratitude for the visit and reiterated Liberia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the United States. He affirmed that Liberia’s role on the Security Council will be guided by principles of peace, justice, and cooperation with international partners. “We are honored by this recognition from the international community and will approach our role with a deep sense of responsibility and dedication,” said Minister Tweh. “We value the longstanding partnership between Liberia and the United States and remain committed to upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of all Liberians.”
According to the release, the meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their shared interest in advancing justice sector reform, regional stability, and mutual diplomatic priorities.
