In observance of Women’s History Month of March, the United Nations Resident Coordinator to Liberia Christine Umutoni has hailed Liberian women for their role in the attainment of peace during the country’s civil crisis.
Umutoni made the call over the weekend at the climax of activities surrounding the Women’s History Month in Monrovia.
Madam Umutoni rallied support for women in key positions describing them as critical partners in Liberia’s transformation process.
She wants such support include politics, businesses and agriculture among others.
The UN Resident Coordinator lauded the government and the UN family for their continuous support to Liberian women in diverse areas over the years.
Showcasing their commodities at the Invincible Sports Park in Monrovia, former Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) Director General Estelle Liberty-Kiamu, who was among several entrepreneurs, admonished Liberian women to get involved with agro businesses.
Madam Liberty-Kiamu said women are making a breakthrough in the agriculture sector despite the challenges in competing with their counterparts across the sub-region.
She underscored a united front in the determination of food production to ensure that Liberia is food secure.
During the program, Amos Boyah Kawreh, President of FUNSA said the initiative stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment to fostering gender equality and empowering women in the various communities.
“Today marks the beginning of an exciting journey, a journey that will not only accelerate the process of women but also pave the way for more inclusive and equitable society. Through this program, we aimed to provide women with the tools, resources, and support they need to excel in their chosen fields, breaks barriers and shatter glass ceilings,” Amos said.
Giving the overview of the program, Ms. Ernree Bee Neeplo explained that it emphasized on women’s empowerment through the collaboration of global partners.
According to Neeplo, the program was aimed to raise awareness about the importance of investing in women economic empowerment, fostering collaboration for partnership to advance gender equality and provide an opponent for women in businesses.
