University of Liberia (UL) President, Dr. Layli Maparyan, Minister of Education, Jarso M. Jallah and Dr. Augustine Stevens, Acting Superintendent of the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS), are expected to appear before the Senate Committee on Education and Public Administration today. The officials are poised to address critical issues affecting the education sector.
A release issued by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education, Senator Nathaniel F. McGill, UL President Maparyan will address the ongoing go-slow action by the University of Liberia Faculty Association (ULFA), present the University’s comprehensive academic and administrative plans for the current academic year, and provide detailed explanations regarding the grievances raised by ULFA.
Senator McGill said the UL President will also inform the Senate of the specific remedial measures her administration is undertaking to resolve the impasse. He said Education Minister Jallah will present and discuss the Ministry’s comprehensive plans for the current fiscal year, with attention to policy priorities for basic and secondary education as well as strategies for higher and technical education.
The Margibi County Senator said the Education Minister will also talk about scholarship administration and student welfare at home and abroad and measures for improving learning outcomes, teacher training, and accountability in the system. According to him, the MCSS Acting Superintendent will respond to urgent concerns raised by Liberian scholarship students currently enrolled at Apecjay Stya University and Graphic Era University in the Republic of India, among other issues.
