Residents of Ganta are mourning the tragic drowning of two pupils of EJ Zion Nursery and Junior High School. Seven-year-old Miracle T. Roberts and eight-year-old Enoch Colema reportedly drowned on Monday, February 23, 2026 in a nearby sandpit. Their bodies were taken to Ganta United Methodist Hospital.
According to Radio Kerghemahn in Ganta, Preliminary reports say the children allegedly left campus during class hours with another student to bathe in the sandpit, located about a 10 to 15-minute walk from the school, when the incident occurred.
Community members have described the deaths as a devastating loss and are raising concerns about the dangers of uncovered, water-filled sandpits. Authorities were yet to issue an official statement up to press time. An investigation is expected.
