Bomi County Senator, Edwin M. Snowe has reintroduced an act to amend Chapter 31 of the Executive Law of 1972 to establish the Liberia Tourism Authority.
In a communication on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, Snowe said the Liberia Tourism Authority Act of 2020 passed by the 54th Legislature, is being reintroduced for passage by the 55th Legislature as the Liberia Tourism Authority Act of 2024.

Senator Snowe said the Act will serve as the principal government agency charged with the responsibility to encourage, promote, develop and regulate tourism as a major socio-economic activity that would improve livelihoods, provide employment, generate revenue and project the tourism sector of Liberia.
“In comparison to other developing nations within our region and beyond, the establishment of this institution will create and improve Liberia’s image as a tourism destination, both domestically and internationally,” Snowe said.
He noted that the Liberia Tourism Authority will also promote the development and expansion of the tourism industry in Liberia thereby attracting foreign exchange earnings.

The Bomi Lawmaker believes that it will promote high standards in the tourism industry through training and human resource development as well as promote responsible and community-based tourism.
“Develop tourism with dignity, respect, and nurture local cultures so that they enrich the tourism experience and build pride in the tourism sector in Liberia. Promote and ensure the respect and dignity of people in tourism industry in Liberia,” he said.

According to him, it will involve local communities including, women, youth, vulnerable and minority groups in all stages of responsible tourism development such as planning, decision-making, and implementation of tourism development strategies and activities.
