During the occasion commemorating the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, President Joseph N. Boakai recognized the diplomatic relationship between Liberia and China, indicating that the ties have brought tangible benefits to the country.
The event was also in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Speaking when he made remarks at the program on Sunday, September 7, 2025, President Boakai said Liberia and China have enjoyed a longstanding friendship since the establishment of diplomatic relations on February 17, 1977.
The Liberian leader recalled that the partnership between the two countries has brought tangible benefits in infrastructure, health, education, and many other vital services. “This September, we’ve elevated our relations to a strategic partnership, demonstrating our shared commitment to deeper cooperation for mutual prosperity,” he added.
Boakai stated, “As we strengthen these bonds, Liberia reaffirms its respect for the One China policy, while also remaining fully committed to advancing a foreign policy rooted in peace, mutual respect, and multilateral engagement.” The President explained that the government believes that partnerships, whether with China or all international allies, must serve the common goal of a more peaceful, secure, and prosperous world.
“On this important occasion, I extend to President Xi Jinping and the people of China our best wishes for continued peace and progress,” Boakai added. For his part, Ambassador YIN Chengwu said as 2025 marks the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, it has transformed from a poor and weak country into a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and embarked on a new journey to fully build a modern socialist country.
According to him, the Chinese nation has achieved great transformation from standing up and growing prosperous to becoming strong, adding that rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is an unstoppable historical trend. Ambassador Chengwu disclosed that China has made new achievements in its modernization drive, outlining that China’s economy has continued to move forward with steady progress, the GDP grew by 5.3 percent year-on-year, exports increased by 7.2 percent, and the total value of imports and exports of goods exceeded 21 trillion RMB.
He added that new quality productive forces were advancing vigorously, risks in key areas were effectively prevented and defused, consumer price and employment were generally stable, and the people’s well-being was further strengthened. The Chinese Ambassador to Liberia said the Communist Party of China (CPC) launched a Party-wide education campaign to implement its central leadership’s “eight-point decision” on improving work conduct, fostering a sounder political ecosystem featuring honesty and integrity in China.
