The Liberian Senate has officially confirmed Elijah Rufus as the Commissioner General (U-300) of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS).  Rufus, who was serving as the Acting Commissioner General, appeared before the Senate for confirmation in May. However, the hearing was postponed to address sensitive security issues related to Liberia’s borders and other joint security matters.

Following the directive of the Senate Chairman on National Security and Veteran Affairs, the confirmation hearing was rescheduled to the Committee Room of the Liberian Senate. At that time, Rufus was asked to return with responses to the concerns raised by several Senators.

On Thursday, May 29, 2025, Rufus returned and provided answers to the questions posed by the Senators. This led the Senate to take action on his confirmation on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, in its chamber at Capitol Hill. According to reports from the Senate, twenty-one senators voted in favor of Rufus’ confirmation.

Since the announcement of his confirmation was shared on social media, immigration officers across the country have begun celebrating. Many officers expressed that their prayers had been answered with this confirmation.
