The Liberian Senate has mandated its Committees on Judiciary, Internal Affairs, and Health to review a bill declaring the first Saturday of every month as Mary Broh National Sanitation Day. The bill, introduced by Grand Kru County Senator, Numene T.H. Bartekwa, aims to promote cleanliness and hygiene across the country.
The proposed legislation would require Liberians to clean their homes, streets, communities, and cities on the designated day. Senator Bartekwa emphasized that the bill builds on an existing initiative started by former Monrovia Acting Mayor, Mary Broh, where public facilities are closed on the first Saturday of every month for cleaning.
If passed, businesses and public institutions would be closed from 6:00 am to 10:00 am on the first Saturday of every month. The bill seeks to promote international sanitation standards, enhance cleaning efforts, and improve waste management across the country. The move is part of Liberia’s efforts to address its sanitation, and hygiene challenges.
