Save the Children International (SCI) Liberia Office has embarked on child rights and gender equity training in Gbarnga, Bong County, central Liberia. According to a release dated September 24, 2024, the training brings together partners and policymakers from the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Ministry of Education, Foundation for International Dignity (FIND), Civil Society Council, Liberia National Police (LNP) Women and Children Protection Unit and Parent Teachers Associations (PTAs) based in Gbarnga as well staff of Save the Children Liberia.

The purpose of the training is to ensure that participants gain knowledge on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and understand rights-based practices across schools.  It is also intended to link rights-based practice to legislation and policy context.

During the one-day training, participants shared their thoughts on how children can be protected from harm and abuse as well as seeking approach to protect them from harmful discipline and discrimination.

Topics discussed at the refresher training include Understanding Child Maltreatment, Child Neglect, Principles in Working with Children and Adolescents Exposed to Maltreatment.  Other highlights under Gender Equity talked about the process of being fair to all people including boys, girls, women and men. The issue of gender gap was also discussed.
