A local sand mining company, HYDE, operating in the Township of Caldwell, Montserrado County has embarked on the construction of a modern town hall for the citizens. The structure is valued at US$100,000.
Speaking with reporters recently, the Administrative Manager of HYDE Sand Mining Company, Alice K. Mulbah Reid said the company was concerned about the difficulties residents of the community go through when conducting meetings, graduation programs, among others.

Reid said prior to embarking on the construction of the town hall, the company has been operating in the township since 2019 and has responded to the demands of the citizens through the constructions of hand-pumps and latrines aimed at providing proper sanitation and ensuring safe drinking water in the affected community.
“We are willing to work with the Government of Liberia in improving the lives of our people and ensure that they benefit from their minerals,” she said.

Reid said the Sand Mining Industry of the Country is crucial to ensuring the provision of jobs to the young people of the country; as such, the government should ensure that royalties received from these companies are properly invested to impact the affected communities through the constructions of developmental projects to directly benefit the citizens.

She called on the citizens to continue to support the works of the company through its initiatives and ensure that companies operating in the area do not only extract the mineral, but to ensure that proceeds accrued are used to transform the livelihoods of citizens of the community.

The Administrative Manager of the company commended the Liberian Government through the leadership of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for the immense investment in the fight against the importation and intake of illicit drugs by young people, while appealing to young people to denounce violence, seek education and do away with the consumption of these harmful substances that will derail their future.

Meanwhile, she recommended that the government through the Ministry of Mines and Energy reinforces the monitoring of sand mining companies around the country to ensure that foreigners do not take over jobs intended for Liberians because when citizens are empowered, they will be able to transform their livelihood.
