A delegation comprising members of the High Command of the Armed Forces of Liberia and some senior staff of the Ministry of National Defense headed by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Col. Theophilus Dana, have toured military facilities in Margibi and Nimba Counties respectively.
During the visit recently to Camp Jones in Kakata and Camp Grant in Sanniquellie, Col. Dana informed the authorities of the two counties that the team was assessing the condition of the barracks for the commencement of possible renovation.
He said the Armed Forces of Liberia is preparing to lawfully retrieve all of its properties around the country, which will help to create an enabling environment for it to carry out the construction of more housing facilities for the men and women in the AFL.
According to him, in order to address the accommodation problem currently faced by the AFL, it is necessary to begin the renovation of all military barracks that existed before the war.
Col. Dana said the AFL will renovate all its facilities as funding becomes available through the National Budget. He said providing conducive living facilities for the men and women in the AFL will not only boost the morale of the army, but will also enhance the security of the country.
The Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia called on authorities of the two counties to work with the citizens and ensure that those living on the military facilities leave in order to allow the army to commence renovation work upon the release of funds
For her part, the Superintendent of Margibi County Atty. Victoria Duncan expressed her support for the renovation of the military facilities within her county, saying, the presence of the AFL will help greatly to improve the security of the county and give hope to investors and citizens alike.
Also speaking, the County Administrator of Nimba County Daniel Zepkpeh expressed his profound gratitude to the visiting delegation for its quest to renovate the military facilities in Nimba. According to him, the presence of the AFL in the Nimba will help greatly to boost the security of the county and is also important for its investment portfolio.
