Recidivist-Sent-to-Jail

George Wade, alias Kelvin Santo, an alleged notorious armed robber and rapist, was again arrested on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 by the Monrovia City Court for armed robbery, theft of property, and sexual assault against two young women, and sent back to jail at the Monrovia Central Prison as this was not his first time going to prison.

In violation of section 14.77 and 15.32 of the New Penal Law of Liberia, the writ stated that the private prosecutrix of the City of Monrovia reported that the defendant by means of pistol gun, took and stole, and carried away from her personal belongings including 15 gram of gold bracelet, 19.5 gram gold ring, 10.5 gram necklace totaling US$21,051.00 plus L5, 000.

The writ issued by the Monrovia City Court reads, “you are hereby commanded to arrest the living body of defendant George Wade alias Kelvin Sonta and forthwith bring before the Monrovia City Court at the Temple of Justice, Montserrado County, to answer to the charges of Armed Robbery and sexual assault based upon the oath and complaint of the Republic of Liberia by and thru the plaintiff in which it is substantially alleged, as the act of the defendant is being criminal, illegal and unconstitutional.”

Defendant Wade, who was one time known as Jack Nicholas Davis, was previously acquitted in April this year of one of his previous charges (Armed Robbery) levied against him at the Criminal Court “D” when Judge Mamietta Jabateh-Sireleaf rendered a not guilty verdict against him because state prosecutors’ failed to establish a prima facie or produce sufficient evidence (the alleged robbery weapon), even though there were multiple witnesses who testified to the alleged criminal acts by the defendant.

At the time of the acquittal from charges of armed robbery, the defendant was also indicted for the crime of rape, and had made his first appearance in court.

However, the defendant was released on bail by Her Honor Serena F. Garlawulo. Resident Circuit Judge of Criminal Court “E” and has since been out of prison in the community.

The defendant, since his release on bail is said to have continued in the same acts that landed him with multiple criminal charges both at the Magisterial and Circuit Courts, allegedly coercing, manipulating and sexually abusing and robbing young women.

According to one of the lawyers for private prosecutirx, Atty. Facia B. Harris, many young women have been explaining their accounts of their experiences with the defendant describing his acts as vicious, ruthless, callous and very notorious.

Atty. Harris said as the legal proceedings unfold, it is understandable that the young women may face a range of emotions-fear, uncertainty, anger and hope. “We acknowledge the strength it takes to participate in this process, and we want them to know that they are not alone, and we also recognize that the legal system can be difficult to navigate and that there are moments of frustration or doubt. Please remember that your voice matters and speaking your truth is a powerful act, and it is essential in the quest for justice and accountability,” she said.

It can be recalled that the Liberian National Police (LNP) charged and forwarded to court suspect George B. Wade, alias Nicolas Jack Davis, with multiple charges.

Addressing a press conference Wednesday, 3 April 2023, former Police Spokesperson Moses Carter said the LNP concluded a full-scale investigation with the accused, narrating that “the situation is currently causing injuries for the victims, both physical and psychological.”

According to Mr. Carter, most times the accused threatened to kill victims. “Suspect Davies usually threatens the victim(s), causing serious bodily harm or death while unlawfully restraining his victim(s) at unspecified locations where he subjects them to involuntary servitude,” Carter said.

Speaking to a young woman–name withheld, who also was said to have fallen prey to the cunning scammer, she said he  had been communicating with multiple young women at different times claiming to live in the United States, and after luring them to believing him, he gets rude, makings demanding threatening statements, claiming to be untouchable.

She prayed that there would be justice for all the women who have been robbed and abused by the defendant, lamenting that “this is too much.”
