Thousands of high school seniors in Liberia began the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination on Monday, June 1, 2026, at various high schools nationwide. According to WAEC, a total of 57,393 twelfth-grade students registered for this year’s regional test, which is a major step toward university admission and career paths.

Mr. Dale G. Gbotoe, head of WAEC Liberia, said candidates are from 1,126 senior high schools in all 15 counties. The number also includes students from three schools in Guinea that use Liberia’s curriculum.

In recent weeks, many schools stepped up revision classes and academic support to get students ready. WASSCE is one of West Africa’s most important exams. It decides if students graduate, qualify for university, and access other post-secondary options. As the first exam ended yesterday afternoon, excitement and nerves are high as thousands of Liberian students began what many call one of the biggest academic moments of their lives.

WASSCE remains one of the most important examinations in the West African region, determining students’ eligibility for graduation, university admission and other post-secondary opportunities. Recently, the Ministry of Education informed the public that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Liberia has released the official schedule for the 2026 school candidates’ examinations.

LJHSCE (9th Grade): April 20–21, 2026, LNAT (3rd Grade): April 22, 2026, LPSCE (6th Grade): April 23–24, 2026 and WASSCE (12th Grade) commences June 1, 2026. At the time, the Ministry of Education encouraged students, school administrators, and parents to take note of these dates and ensure adequate preparation.
