Orange-Liberia has unveiled a new Artificial Intelligence tool known as Lorpu AI, aimed at closing the country’s information gap by giving students and business people access to critical data without the need for a smartphone or expensive internet bundles.
The service was officially launched in Monrovia, with top executives of Orange=Liberia and government representatives in attendance. The company says Lorpu AI is part of its broader mission to make digital inclusion a reality for every Liberian, regardless of location or income.
Speaking on behalf of the CEO of Orange-Liberia, Chief Legal Affairs Officer Supu H. W. Cole described Lorpu AI as an educational tool built for impact. “This is an educational tool that will help students and the Monrovia Consolidated School System, MCSS, which runs the biggest public schools across the country,” Cole said.
He noted that many students and families struggle to buy data to access the internet. For them, Lorpu AI removes that barrier. “You do not have to be educated before accessing information. All you need to do is just ask, and Lorpu AI will give you the information,” he explained.
Cole emphasized that the tool will serve both students and business people across Liberia. “It will not only provide information on international markets, but it will also provide information about Liberia,” he said.
He also thanked Orange-Liberia’s marketing team for driving the innovation, saying that the product will play a key role in bridging the information gap nationwide. “A person only needs to subscribe for L$0.5 and send LAD to 2026,” he stated. Once subscribed, users can ask Lorpu AI questions and receive answers instantly.
The Chief Legal Affairs Officer stressed that the service is built for people who cannot afford regular data. “Orange-Liberia cares for Liberians by creating Lorpu AI to integrate every Liberian into access to information without data,” he said.
Chief Marketing Officer Riymand Ben of Orange-Liberia said the launch comes at a time when the world is moving fast into the AI era. Yet, he noted that many Liberians are still locked out because they lack a smartphone or cannot afford data.
“In a time like this, where the world is advancing with AI and many people want to have access to information, they sometimes find it difficult because of a lack of smartphones or data,” Ben said.
Ben reiterated that the tool is Orange-Liberia’s way of supporting students and entrepreneurs who need information but are constrained by cost. The L$0.5 subscription and LAD to 2026 short code make it one of the most affordable digital services on the market.
The Government of Liberia also welcomed the launch. Speaking on behalf of the state, Assistant Superintendent Emmanuel Robinson thanked Orange-Liberia for the innovation and pledged the government’s support.
“We thank Orange-Liberia for such an innovation,” Robinson said. “We promise to work with Orange-Liberia so that students will be trained to use Lorpu AI to aid in education.”
His remarks signal a potential partnership between Orange-Liberia and the Ministry of Education to integrate the tool into classrooms, particularly within MCSS schools. If implemented, Lorpu AI could become one of the first AI tools officially used at scale in Liberia’s public education system.
For Students, quick access to information on academic topics, current affairs, and societal issues for MCSS schools with limited computer labs or internet, the tool offers a low-cost alternative for research and learning.
For Business People, they can access real-time information on international markets and Liberia’s local markets, including prices of gold and basic commodities. This can help traders, market women, and small business owners make better buying and selling decisions. For all Liberians, general information on demand, delivered in plain language, without requiring literacy in technology.
Lorpu AI focuses on both international and local information; many existing digital tools prioritize global data, leaving users in Liberia without context on local prices, policies, or events. Lorpu AI is positioned to fill that gap.
