The National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) says it is investigating reports of another Pox-Like Disease among Sinoe Prison Inmates. A Jan. 25, 2025 release issued by the institution said its attention is drawn to the reports, considering the ongoing continental and global Monkeypox outbreak to which the NPHIL is currently responding in Liberia.
However, the public head regulator said County and District Surveillance Officers have been informed and are performing the required epidemiological preparedness and response investigation including assessing of suspected persons or inmates in order to evaluate the symptoms of the reported disease in question.
As a procedure, the appropriate specimens will be collected and sent to the National Reference Laboratory for testing to determine the pathogen and its bimolecular characteristics.
Meanwhile, the NPHIL admonishes the public not to panic, but to remain calm and contact it for accurate information as the investigation of reports continues.
According to the release, updates will be promptly communicated as information becomes available. The public has been asked to avoid contacts and observe all sanitary measures.
