The Minister of Commerce & Industry (MoCI), Magdalene Ellen Dagoseh, has called for improved safety measures at the Monrovia Industrial Park (MIP). Madam Dagoseh particularly referred a recent incident at Sethi Brothers’ Steel Factory at the MIP where one person died as a result of an explosion. She said while the Liberian government appreciates the job opportunities being provided by the various companies at the Monrovia Industrial Park, the safety of employees and others residing within the operational areas will not be compromised.
Minister Dagoseh once more expressed the Commerce Ministry’s sympathy to the company and the deceased’s family for the unfortunate incident. She made the call recently while touring the Monrovia Industrial Park to have a fair assessment of the facilities and working conditions. “We came here immediately after the incident and we are here again to express our sympathy, there is however a need for more safety measures to avoid the recurrence of the unfortunate situation,” Minister Dagoseh added.
The Commerce & Industry Minister also urged companies operating at the MIP to fulfill their corporate social responsibilities to the country and ensure that the environment is clean at all times.
She said that while the companies help provide daily bread for Liberian citizens, the concept of giving back to the country through corporate social responsibilities should not equally be forgotten. For their part, the companies thanked Minister Dagoseh and team for the visit.
They pledged their commitment to addressing the points raised and called for continued engagement with the Ministry in the spirit of collaboration. The Tuesday, April 8, 2025 visit to the Monrovia Industrial Park by Minister Dagoseh and Deputy Commerce Minister for Industry, Andrew Paygar, saw them tour the facilities of Sethi Brothers, Tiba Industrial Group, Founni Brothers Biscuit Factory& Silver Automotive.
