A 22-year-old man who went missing after a canoe capsized has been found dead on the coast of District #4 in Grand Bassa County.
Christian Koffa went missing last Thursday, July 25, 2024 while fishing on the Atlantic Ocean and apparently experienced a capsize.
Speaking to reporters, the survivor of the casualty, Mark Nagbe, said their fishing canoe capsized after it was hit by a strong wind that pushed them out of the canoe to struggle against the raging waves.
According to him, they both fought hard to get back in the canoe but to no avail because the waves had swept the canoe to a faraway distance and were forced to embark on a swinging journey before being rescued by another canoe due to the storm.
Nagbe said by that time his colleague, Christian Koffa, was nowhere to be found after an hour of searching the ocean.
For his part, an uncle of the deceased, William Debah, told journalists that his nephew left the house on Thursday morning along with his friend when the incident took place.
He said he was concerned when Christian and his friend had not returned from fishing.
According to Debah, he was shocked to hear that Christian’s canoe had capsized and they were in search of him. He said after he got the information, they went to rescue him but he was nowhere to be found. Courtesy DCN Radio, Rivercess
